Uzbekistan
Starting June 1, 2025, citizens of China will be able to enter visa-free for a single stay of no more than 30 days (and a cumulative stay of no more than 90 days within a 180-day period). Those entering the other country for activities requiring prior approval, such as work, study, or news reporting, or those intending to stay in the other country for more than 30 days, will still need to obtain a visa before entering the other country. This agreement does not apply to the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions of China.
Kazahkstan
From November 10, 2023, Chinese citizens holding official passports, ordinary passports, and travel documents may enter Kazakhstan visa-free for personal matters, business activities (including negotiations, contract signing, provision of consulting services, and other business activities), tourism, medical treatment, international transport, and transit. A single stay may not exceed 30 days, and a cumulative stay may not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.
Kyrgyzstan
According to the bilateral agreement between China and Kyrgyzstan, Chinese citizens holding diplomatic or service passports are exempt from visa requirements for a stay of 30 days. Holders of other passports are required to obtain a visa. Furthermore, starting October 21, 2023, Chinese citizens holding long-term visas valid for three years or longer (visas only, not green cards, permanent residence cards, etc., and the visas must be in valid passports) from the United States, the United Kingdom, or other Schengen countries can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free through Bishkek's Manas International Airport for a stay of up to seven days, and can re-enter the country visa-free 21 days after their departure. Permanent residents of the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions of China, holding valid travel documents and round-trip air tickets, can also enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free through Manas International Airport for a stay of up to 30 days, and re-enter the country visa-free 30 days after their departure.
Tajikistan
Chinese citizens holding diplomatic, service, or ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements for a stay of 30 days in Tajikistan. Stays exceeding 30 days require visa renewal at the Tajik Consulate General. Chinese citizens holding private passports must apply for a visa at the Tajik Embassy in China before entering Tajikistan. To apply for a visa on arrival in Tajikistan, a visa invitation letter confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan must be obtained in advance before applying for a visa on arrival at the airport.
Starting from January 1, 2017, Tajikistan will use the electronic visa application system, and visa applications must be submitted through the website www.visa.gov.tj .
Turkmenistan
According to the bilateral agreement between China and Turkmenistan, Chinese citizens holding diplomatic, service, or ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements for travel to Turkmenistan. Holders of these passports must apply for a visa in advance if their stay in Turkmenistan exceeds 30 days. Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports must apply for a visa before traveling to Turkmenistan: Apply for a visa before traveling to Turkmenistan. To apply for a visa at the Turkmenistan Embassy in China, you must submit a valid passport (valid for at least six months and with at least two blank pages), a written application from the inviting organization, two copies of the official invitation letter (the second copy must be presented to immigration authorities upon entry), and two bareheaded, 3x4 cm photographs. Tourist visas can only be obtained through travel agencies. Those working or studying in Turkmenistan for more than three months must provide a health certificate when applying for a visa.
Afghanistan
The Afghan Embassy in China typically issues single-entry visas valid for a 30-day stay. Applicants must provide their passport, national ID card, visa application form, and invitation letter from the Afghan side. Valid passports and visas must be held for at least six months, and entry is permitted only after inspection by immigration and customs authorities. On May 15, 2025, the Afghan interim government stipulated that Chinese citizens holding "AIR ONLY" visas can only enter and exit the country via airports and are unable to enter or exit neighboring countries by land.

Q: Who does not need visa?
A: Nationals of 47 countries, namely Brunei, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Japan, Bazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain holding valid ordinary passports are exempted from visa requirement if coming to China for the purpose of business, tourism, family or friends visits, exchange and transit. They can stay in China for no more than 30 days without visa.
Q: Do foreign nationals eligible for a visa waiver need to make declarations to Chinese embassies or consulates in advance?
A: Foreign nationals eligible for a visa waiver do not need to declare in advance to Chinese embassies or consulates before entering China without a visa.
Q: Will the purpose of intended stay in China be examined by Chinese border inspection authorities when entering China? How will it be done? Are other documents needed for entering China in addition to a passport?
A: Foreign nationals traveling for purposes of business, tourism, family or friends visits,exchange and transit that meet the visa waiver requirements can be allowed to enter China without a visa upon examination and approval in accordance with law by border inspection authorities. Entry into China shall be denied by border inspection authorities in accordance with law to foreign nationals who travel for purposes that do not meet the visa waiver requirements or who are not allowed to enter China in accordance with laws and regulations. It is recommended to take documents such as invitation letters, air tickets and reservations of accommodation as a proof corresponding to the purposes of entry into China. Visa waiver does not apply to those who come to China for work, study, journalistic or alike purposes.
Q: Is there any additional requirement for minors eligible for a visa waiver?
A: Visa waiver requirements for minors are the same as for adults.
Q: Are there any requirements on the type and validity of entry documents?
A: For foreign nationals, an ordinary passport valid for at least the duration of intended stay in China is needed. Holders of travel documents or temporary or emergency documents other than ordinary passports are not allowed to enter into China without a visa.
Q: How to calculate the duration of stay of 30 days?
A: The duration of stay without visa is calculated from the next day of entry and lasts for 30 calendar days.
Q: Does the visa waiver apply to foreign nationals who travel from a third country?
A: Eligible foreign nationals can depart for China from any country or region.
Q: Does the visa waiver apply to foreign nationals who travel by forms of transport other than planes?
A: The visa waiver applies to all travelers coming to China through any sea, road and air port open to foreign nationals (except where laws, regulations and bilateral arrangements specify otherwise). For arrivals in China by private transport, certain procedures for entry and exit of means of transport shall be processed in accordance with relevant laws and regulations of China.
Q: Does the visa waiver apply to tour groups?
A: The visa waiver applies to eligible foreign nationals either in tour groups or as individuals.
Q: If the length of intended stay exceeds 30 days, can the visa waiver be extended?
A: Foreign nationals planning to stay in China for over 30 days shall apply for visas corresponding to their purposes of stay in advance at Chinese embassies or consulates. If they have to stay longer than 30 days for appropriate and sufficient reasons after entering China without a visa, they shall apply for stay permits to the exit and entry administrations of public security authorities of China.
Q: Does the visa waiver allow multiple entries? Is there any requirement on the length of intervals between each entry, or any restriction on the number of entries without a visa or total days of stay?
A: Foreign nationals eligible for the visa waiver can enter China without a visa multiple times. Currently, there is no restriction on the number of entries or total days of stay, but those who enjoy visa-free travel to China shall not engage in activities inconsistent with their purpose of entry.
